Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)

I worked at AMD from 1981 through 1986,  as a product planner in AMD HQ in Sunnyvale, California, product engineer in the MOS Microprocessor Division, district sales manager in New Jersey, and then General Manager of AMD in Japan. It was a terrific apprenticeship in high technology, how to make good R&D choices, and how to compete in Japan. These were the boom days in Silicon Valley, before the so-called “dot.com” era. We all thought we were changing the world – high speed microprocessors, LANs, structured software languages, graphic user interfaces, and on and on…..
